Description

Delicious homemade cherry turnovers with a flaky pastry and sweet-tart filling, perfect for special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of puff pastry sheets
  • 2 cups fresh cherries, pitted and halved
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Combine the halved cherries, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness.
  4. Cut the rolled pastry into 4-inch squares.
  5. Place a spoonful of the cherry mixture in the center of each square.
  6. Fold the squares diagonally to form triangles and press the edges to seal.
  7. Arrange the turnovers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Brush the tops with whisked egg for a golden glaze.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Chill puff pastry before rolling and avoid overfilling to prevent spillage.
