Description

These Oven-Baked Cabbage Burgers feature crispy cabbage and savory meat patties, offering a healthy twist on traditional comfort food, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 small head of cabbage (cut into thick slices)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for brushing)
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey (or ground chicken or plant-based options)
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 large egg (optional, for binding)
  • 1 cup cheese (shredded, for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Cut the cabbage into thick slices, about an inch wide, ensuring a sturdy base.
  3. Brush both sides of the cabbage slices with olive oil.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and egg (if using); stir until thoroughly blended.
  5. Form the meat mixture into patties that align with the cabbage slices.
  6. Arrange the cabbage slices on a baking sheet and top each with a meat patty.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top of each patty.
  8. Bake for approximately 25 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through and the cabbage is tender.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, substitute the meat with lentils or quinoa. To add some spice, mix in diced jalapeños. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
