- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups Granulated sugar
- 4 Large eggs
- 1 1/2 tsp Baking powder
- 1 tsp Baking soda
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 cup Buttermilk
- 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tsp Vanilla extract
- 1 cup Heavy cream
- 1/4 cup Powdered sugar (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the cake pans by greasing and lining them with parchment paper.
- Mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
- Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time and then add the vanilla extract.
- Combine the dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cake layers on a wire rack.
- Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then add powdered sugar and whip until stiff.
- Assemble the cake with whipped cream in between layers and on top.
- Chill for at least one hour before serving.
Notes
Feel free to customize by adding chocolate chips or nuts to the cake batter.
