Description

Gyeran bap is a comforting rice dish topped with a perfectly cooked egg, enhanced with butter and soy sauce, perfect for any meal of the day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups Cooked Short Grain or Jasmine Rice (Hot when mixed with butter)
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted Butter
  • 1 large Egg
  • 0.5 teaspoon Vegetable Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Toasted Sesame Oil (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Soy Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Toasted Sesame Seeds (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped Green Onion

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Rice: Start with your cooked short grain or jasmine rice while it’s still hot. Place it in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Mix with Butter: Add the unsalted butter to the bowl of rice. Stir gently until the butter melts and fully coats the grains.
  3. Heat the Skillet: In a non-stick skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  4. Cook the Egg: Crack the large egg into the skillet and fry until the white is set, leaving the yolk slightly runny.
  5. Season the Rice: Drizzle in soy sauce and sprinkle chopped green onions over the rice. Toss everything together.
  6. Assemble: Plate the buttery rice mixture in a bowl and slide the cooked egg on top.
  7. Garnish: Finish with toasted sesame seeds. Enjoy while hot!

Notes

For vegan options, use tofu scramble instead of egg and vegan butter in place of regular butter.
