Description

Enjoy the delightful crunch of crispy onion ring chips with a touch of sweetness from tender onions. Perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sweet onions (e.g., Vidalia or yellow onions)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko preferred)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Vegetable or canola oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Slice and soak: Peel and slice onions into rings, about ¼ inch thick. Soak in cold water for 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the coatings: Set up three bowls—one with seasoned flour, one with whisked eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
  3. Dredge the rings: Pat dry the soaked onion rings and dip into flour, then egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat the oil: Fill a deep pot with oil, about three inches deep, and heat to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Fry until golden: Carefully add onion rings in batches for 2-4 minutes or until golden-brown.
  6. Drain and serve: Remove chips using a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt while hot.

Notes

For a healthier option, use an air fryer or bake at 425°F for about 20-25 minutes.
