A delightful twist on classic grilled cheese featuring sweet pears, tart apples, and creamy melted cheese, perfectly complemented by caramelized onions.
Ingredients

- 2 slices of bread (sourdough or multigrain)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/2 cup grated cheese (cheddar or Gruyère)
- 1 small pear, thinly sliced
- 1 small apple, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until they turn deep golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
- Prepare your bread: Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Layer the filling: On the non-buttered side of one slice, layer grated cheese, pear slices, apple slices, and caramelized onions.
- Top your sandwich: Place the other slice of bread on top, buttered side facing up.
- Grill your sandwich: Grill on medium heat for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and cheese is melted.
- Serve and enjoy: Slice in half and share, or enjoy it all yourself!
Notes
You can caramelize the onions in advance and store them in the refrigerator for up to three days. Adjust cheese type or add honey for sweetness.
