A comforting dish of pasta enveloped in a rich tomato sauce with hearty Italian sausage, bright basil, and grated parmesan.

- 1 lb Italian sausage
- 12 oz pasta (penne, fettuccine, or spaghetti)
- 24 oz tomato sauce
- 1 onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the pasta: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add your pasta of choice and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Heat the skillet: In a large skillet over medium heat, warm olive oil.
- Sauté aromatics: Add the diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
- Brown the sausage: Crumble the sausage into the pan. Stir occasionally until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the sauce: Pour in the tomato sauce, stirring to coat the sausage. Lower the heat and simmer gently for about 10 minutes.
- Combine pasta and sauce: Toss the cooked pasta into the skillet, mixing well. Add reserved pasta water if needed.
- Season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Serve with parmesan and fresh basil on top.
Notes
For a lighter option, use turkey sausage. You can also add fresh vegetables for added nutrition.
