Description

Classic Spaghetti Bolognese envelops al dente spaghetti in a rich, savory sauce, blending flavors of tender ground meat, fresh vegetables, and aromatic herbs.


Ingredients

  • 400 g spaghetti
  • 500 g ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 carrots, finely diced
  • 2 celery stalks, finely diced
  • 800 g canned or fresh crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 glass red wine (optional)
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Herbs (oregano, basil, bay leaf)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. Cook the spaghetti in a pot of generously salted boiling water until al dente. Reserve a cup of pasta water before draining.
  2. Sauté the diced onion, garlic, carrots, and celery in olive oil over medium heat until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Brown the ground beef by pushing the vegetables to one side of the pan and cooking the meat until browned.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine (if using) into the pan, then season with salt, pepper, and herbs.
  5. Simmer the sauce uncovered for 20-30 minutes until thickened, adding reserved pasta water if it thickens too much.
  6. Serve the spaghetti topped with the Bolognese sauce and a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

For added flavor, include a pinch of red pepper flakes or a splash of balsamic vinegar. This dish can be made ahead for deeper flavor.
